Connecting Academic Opportunities

WELCOME TO THE GSEA WEBSITE!

The Graduate Scholars of English Association (GSEA), founded in 1991, represents graduate students in the Department of English at Arizona State University. The GSEA offers a variety of social activities for graduate students, including mixers and workshops. The GSEA also maintains communication with faculty members and administrators in the English Department to support and promote graduate student interests. For the past 24 years, graduate students in the English department have hosted the Southwest English Symposium, an annual graduate student academic conference. In the 25th year of the conference, the Southwest Humanities Conference (SWHS) was renamed to reflect an increased interest in interdisciplinary scholarship in the department and generally at ASU.

Welcome message from the GSEA President!

On behalf of the Graduate Scholars of English Association (GSEA), I welcome you all to a new semester at Arizona State University’s Department of English. GSEA is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community where students (Master’s and PhD) across the programs (e.g., Literature, TESO/Linguistics & Applied Linguistics, English Education, Writing, Rhetorics, and Literacies, Creative Writing) in the department can engage, collaborate, and grow with fellow English majors both academically and socially. We are here to support you!

This year, we have an exciting lineup of events, including guest lectures, workshops, and social gatherings. These are great opportunities to not only develop your academic skills but also build meaningful connections with your peers. I encourage you all to get involved, as your participation is crucial to the success of our events and the vibrancy of our community. Whether by attending our meetings, participating in events, or contributing your ideas, your voice and creativity are essential to sustaining our organization.

Please feel free to contact me or any of our board members if you have questions or ideas. We’re here to help you make the most of your time at ASU.

With very best wishes,

Madhukar K C (Madhu)
